I'm working right now on that little mod most of you are not aware exists! Gateway Shuffle fixes Gauntlet's problem with using only the first 255 path nodes in a map for placing gateways meaning large maps like DM-OurHouse will have only a bedroom or two packed with gateways while the rest of the house is empty! This mod fixed that by removing all gateways that were placed in the map and adds it to a list and takes all the path nodes and adds it to a list and shuffles the order of the node list like a deck of cards and then places gateways from the top of the deck to the bottom getting random gate placement evenly throughout the house! This mod has been running for months on the server however I'm making some experimental changes to it that might make gauntlet more interesting and challenging.

The changes I have made is to bring a new experience of gameplay in gauntlet that is based off one of my ideas for a sub game type in gauntlet that could be called Gauntlet Infinity or Gauntlet Regeneration or something. Anyhow the idea is that time is not exactly the enemy as much as trying to fight a very long and hard game and keep your head above water for the gateways you destroy more will come back IN GAME. The gateways will respawn and there are a few ways this could be worked into a game type. Either the goal could be the same as usual and destroy all gates in time with the added challenge of a few gates coming back or the challenge of no time but gateways coming back and your goal is to keep the gates from reaching a certain number which I'm thinking will be a percentage of the starting amount of gates like 200% or something so if you have 21 gateways you got to keep it from reaching 42 or your team loses. I have some idea I'll be testing out on the players of gateways once I get things working okay on my end.

Right now I been doing a bit of codding and brainstorming on my end thinking of how some of the few exposed players felt about the changes and the results sat between interest to frustration. I think I know what changes I need to make. At first gateways respawned in random locations like they do when they are originally spawned in the map at a first glance it seemed to me why change the existing system for spawning gates? then after I saw Dire and Marylyn play at DM-007-Bunker That huge map with long hallways and watching them run from one corner of the map to kill a gate and another one spawns on the other side seeing their frustration I know now I need to change the system. So now I'm going to try a cool system that gateways will only respawn where live monsters are left at in a map. So be sure to kill that cowardly manta that flies to the top of the mountain at lava giant ;)

I'm already excited to see the possibilities!

Testing is going well! Incredible! I set the spawn rate to high to watch the monster march and build gateways its amazing watching an area get infected with gateways like a virus wow! It also prevents gates from spawning in the death zones lava slime etc.

Now I'll have to make a few fixes features changes here are some things I'm considering:
- Never spawn gates at boss time
+ Make the spawn rate vary depending on how many gates are left
? Figure out how to scale time depending on gate kills or just make it a rush to stop the infection

Played a little last night. It was pretty cool with that mod. We had about 3-4 players so it wasn't too overwhelming.

I haven't been on much lately -- weather is nice all of a sudden up here in the arctic north and I've had so much stuff to do outdoors leaving less time for UT ;) I get on briefly for quick games, and I was on this morning with Suzy<..>. We we were playing one of the small maps, one that two of us can usually beat without a problem. Suddenly, we're down to 10 gates... then, I look again... 12. I was really confused at first! Haha. Then we played a larger map, Lava Temple, and the same thing happened. Now that I see your post, it all makes sense !!! It definitely makes for a challenging game.

Also, something strange happened while we were playing the "Sonic The Hedge Hog" GTC map -- I can't remember the exact map name (green something??). The game suddenly ended at about at a minute in and said we lost! We had a good 5 minutes left when that happened.

This will happen if too many gates spawn in the map. It's based on a percentage.
I think it's at 120% now so when there is 120% of the base gateways In a map your team losses for not being able to keep control of the game. So for example 21 gateways at Deck16 starting so once it reaches 120% of that the game ends so it should be around 25 gateways

I didn't realize it until now, but this topic is also the name of a Cowboy Bebop episode. Go figure!
